Criminal Records Screening Certificate
This is a basic background check for applicants looking to work or volunteer for an employer or organization. This is not a Vulnerable Sector Check, which is a type of background check needed for a role working with children or vulnerable adults.
A Criminal Record Screening Certificate includes criminal convictions from the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and/or local databases, summary convictions, for five years when identified, and findings of guilt under the Youth Criminal Justice Act within the applicable disclosure period.
Vulnerable Sector Check
A VSC is for candidates looking to work or volunteer with vulnerable persons, who are defined as a person who, because of their age, a disability, or other circumstances, whether temporary or permanent, are in a position of dependence on others or are otherwise at a greater risk than the general population of being harmed by the person(s) in a position of authority or trust to them.
In addition to the information provided in a Criminal Record Screening Certificate, a VSC also determines if the applicant has been convicted of a sexual offence listed in the schedule of the Criminal Records Act and has been pardoned.

Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

According to RCMP policy, vulnerable sector checks must be conducted by your local police service. Therefore, Triton cannot offer vulnerable sector information.
Applicants residing in the North East Avalon region, Corner Brook, and Labrador West can get their vulnerable sector checks through the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary. Residents in other areas of NL will have to check with their local RCMP detachment.
